Illegal fish pen dismantling completed– Bantay Ilog

IF THERE were no hitches in their operational plans, Dagupan’s rivers are expected to be cleared of illegal fish pens by today, September 15.

This was the projection as Task Force Bantay Ilog after it vowed last Monday to get the job done in a week’s time.

City Agriculturist Emma Molina, head of the task force, had expressed confidence that the remaining 60 of the 205 illegal structures that mushroomed since March can be demolished by the team based on their track record of having dismantled 53 in a week’s time.

“With 60 illegal fish pens more to go, this is doable,” Molina reported to Mayor Belen Fernandez on September 9.

There are 43 structures under contention, whose owners claim that their structures are legal as these were built on land within their titled properties before becoming part of the river due to erosion, are still being validated by the City Legal Office and will temporarily be spared from the dismantling operation.

Molina said another eight structures are currently being evaluated for the same reason.

She said the validation by the city legal office will be based on the 1926 cadastral map.
