Guv loses cool over shabby Bani police station
BANI—“With this kind of environment, you expect na gagawa ng mabuti ang mga pulis natin?”
Governor Amado Espino Jr. expressed his disgust upon seeing the condition of the police station in this town during a brief inspection last September 3.
Nonetheless, the governor vowed to help improve the conditions in the police station and offered to inform the Philippine National Police leadership regarding their situation initially with the assurance that the provincial government will assist.
Espino found the station’s premises unsanitary and lacked basic sanitation facilities including a comfort room at the policemen’s quarters located at the third floor of the police building.
He said police officers working under such conditions cannot be expected to be motivated and in high morale.
Espino then took a jibe at former Mayor Marcelo Navarro saying he is surprised to find the station in dismal state since Navarro used to be a man in uniform.
TOURISM
Espino was in Bani to give the municipality a tourism and information kiosk under the provincial government’s Baruy Pangasinan, meaning “Tour Pangasinan”, campaign.
Incumbent Mayor Gwen Yamamoto expressed her gratitude for the governor’s support to the town’s tourism and agriculture sectors.
“Nararamdaman talaga nila (townsfolk) ‘yong pagbabago,” said Yamamoto.
The mayor earlier vowed to develop the different main tourists spots of the town such as the beach and caves and will organize the Pakwan (watermelon) Festival, on February 8-9, 2014 as a way of promoting both tourism and Bani’s most popular agri product.
Yamamoto also announced that start of the renovation of the town public market next week. –Johanne R. Macob
