DAGUPAN was among the major cities around the country that took part in the Million People March, with the main venue at the Luneta Grandstand in Manila, organized mainly by netizens to protest against the pork barrel and corruption in government.

Held last August 26, the observance of National Heroes’ Day, there were two rallies at the Dagupan City Plaza, one in the morning and another in the afternoon.

Lingayen-Dagupan Archdiocese Archbishop Socrates Villegas, also the incoming Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) president, was among the prominent personalities who joined the peaceful gathering.

He called on Pangasinenses to make a stand on the pork barrel issue and stressed that the bigger battle is against institutionalized corruption.

“Beyond pork, I think there should be no more lying, no more stealing and no more corruption because the pork is only a symptom and a structure but the bigger problem is dishonesty,” said Villegas.–Johanne R. Macob
