STUDENTS from Dagupan were delighted by the musical play Katipunan (Mga Anak ng Bayan), which was staged for the first time last Thursday at the CDD Arzadon Gym at Leisure Coast Resort with a return engagement on September 13.

The play, directed by Jun Pablo and noted movie director Joel Lamangan, stars Sandino Martin as Andres Bonifacio, Anna Fegi as Gregoria de Jesus, second wife of Bonifacio, and RJ Jimenez as Emilio Jacinto, the brains of the Katipunan.

The play was presented by the Gantimpala Theater Foundation, a group that intends to bring theater production to the provinces.

Pablo said Katipunan is on a tour around the provinces, the first stop being in Dagupan, as a tribute to Bonifacio for his 150th anniversary on November 30.

The play, he said will also be shown in Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan and Laguna before its premiered in Manila.

Katipunan was written by Bonifacio Ilagan and won the first prize in the Cultural Center of the Philippines Playwriting Contest in 1978.
