BUGALLON—Mayor Jumel Espino, the youngest in the history of Pangasinan, has big dreams for the tourism industry of this once sleepy town old town.

Espino, son of the governor, said he is confident he can realize his vision for his town because the provincial government will help develop the tourist spots in town, including the establishment of resort facilities at the Mt. Zion Pilgrimage Site, promotion of the Laguit Padilla falls, and the development of a part of the Agno River in Bañaga into “the water sports mecca of the north.”

There are also plans to renovate the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes, one of the oldest Spanish churches in the country.

Bugallon, a landlocked-town in the mid-western side of the province, was founded in 1719

Governor Amado Espino Jr., who visited here, his hometown, last week to deliver the town’s tourism kiosk under the “Baruy Pangasinan” travel campaign, reaffirmed his support to the municipal government’s tourism plan.

At the same time, the governor urged the people to “forget politics”, recalling how the town’s former mayor, now Vice Mayor Rodrigo Orduña, accused him of receiving money from the operations of the illegal numbers game jueteng.

Kaya kong itabi muna ‘yon (all that happened particularly in the last elections) for the sake of Bugallon and for the sake of Pangasinan,” the elder Espino said.–Johanne R. Macob
