BFAR, Capitol team up for marine resource management
USAID ECOFISH PROJECT
LINGAYEN—The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is partnering with the provincial government for the implementation of the Ecosystems Improved for Sustainable Fisheries (ECOFISH) project.
ECOFISH, a five-year program of the United States Aid for International Development (USAID), is designed to protect and manage eight marine key biodiversity areas in the country, which include focal areas in the Lingayen Gulf.
The project will address biological diversity, enhance ecosystem productivity and restore the profitability of fishery areas.
A resolution authored by 5th District Board Member Danny Uy was passed by the provincial board last Monday authorizing Gov. Amado Espino Jr. to enter into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the BFAR for the implementation of the project.
BFAR requested Pangasinan to be one of its partners in the implementation of ECOFISH.
Under the MOA, BFAR will provide technical training programs, support initiatives to improve management of municipal marine waters, and facilitate collaboration between local governments, institutions and private sector partners.—Eva Visperas
