Asingan stars dominate Dagupan duathlon
TWO athletes from Asingan dominated the ‘Talikarkaran tan Padyakan ed Dalan’ duathlon last September 1 organized by the Dagupan City Cycling Club.
Veteran Jefferson Valdez and his protégé Jeric Buhian, both national team members, were undaunted by the big field and strong local contenders and from neighboring provinces who joined the run-bike-run event that started and ended at the CSI Mall in Dagupan City.
Buhian, 18, competing in his first duathlon in Pangasinan, floated with the lead pack in the first 3-kilometer running event, then pedaled past the group through the 30-km bike race, his forte, and sustained his lead in the second 3-km footwork.
He clocked the tourney in one hour, three minutes and 56 seconds.
Buhian’s coach, the 38-year old Valdez, came in second place, 34 seconds off his protégé.
Baguio City standout Edison Morales landed third, two minutes 10 seconds adrift the winner.
The open race was done in five categories with 70 out of 91 participants, completed the events.
The top five finishers in each division received a medal each while all survivors received a ‘Finisher’ award.–JAGJr.
