TWO circles of young Pangasinan artists have collaborated to stage their works in one exhibit dubbed as ‘Liing’, which opened last July 27, 2013 at the Liongoren Gallery, Tapuac District in Dagupan.

About twenty artists from the Agini and Aya groups, who are 25 years old and below, have their drawings, paintings, and sculpture-installations on display for free public viewing until the end of August.

“This art exhibit was to put together by our young artists. Hindi pwedeng nasa bahay lang ‘yong artist, he/she should go outside, join groups in order to be more effective at makilala sya,” said Paco Santos, a sculptor/interior designer who serves as the mentor of the artists.

According to five-year artist Mark Joseph Macaraeg from the Aya group, he was inspired by the group to keep up with his hobby. He was a student at the Dagupan City National High School when he joined Aya, the artists’ group formed by his teacher.

STREET ARTISTS

Meanwhile, a freelance artist, Jay Hernandez of the Agini group, said his group decided to join the exhibit to show their skills as street artists.

Gusto naming ipakita na meron din kaming ibubuga,” remarked Hernandez.

Agini, an artists’ group formed out of friendships, specializes in experimental and contemporary arts.

Macaraeg and Hernandez urged their fellow young artists to persevere with what they do and join artists’ circles in order to enhance what they already know and gain exposure.

Santos, for his part, encouraged young artists to “keep on creating, keep on drawing, thinking and producing arts” as he called on other youths who have talent in the visual arts to come out and join groups to develop their skills further and keep the Pangasinan line of artists alive. — Johanne R.
