SHELLFISH gathered from the coastal waters of Anda, Bolinao, Bani, Wawa, and Alaminos City remain free from toxic red tide, based on an advisory from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

BFAR Shellfish Bulletin No.21, issued on August 22, 2013, states that latest results of the laboratory analyses conducted indicate that fish, squids, shrimps, crabs and seashells like mussels and oysters gathered from these coastal waters are free from the red tide toxin and safe for human consumption.

BFAR Region 1 Director Nestor Domenden said that as a precautionary measure, local government units must not get lax on monitoring sea produce from elsewhere.

Market inspectors, quarantine officers, and administrators are tasked to demand for “Auxiliary Invoice” or clearance for domestic fish and seashells unloaded from other provinces or municipalities.—Eva Visperas
