DUE to a conflict in schedule with Indonesia’s international invitational chess tournament scheduled on October 19-20 where many Filipino Grandmasters have been invited to participate, the second Sta. Barbara Open Chess Classic has been reset to an earlier date, October 5-6, to be held at the town’s Agricultural Training Institute-Regional Training in Barangay Tebag East.

Pangasinan Chess League spokesman and events’ director Allen Garcia told The PUNCH that the six grandmasters who were invited to join the Sta. Barbara tiff, namely Oliver Barbosa, Darwin Laylo, Mark Paragua, John Paul Gomez, Joey Antonio and Richard Bitoon plus other Filipino international masters headed by Mangatarem pride Haridas Pascua are sure to take part in the Indonesian jaunt.

“We are giving way to the Indonesian tilt to avoid the conflict of dates and not to jeopardize the image of our Sta. Barbara tourney,” said PCL president Don Sison.

The Sta. Barbara Open is principally sponsored by Gov. Amado Espino Jr. with support from Sta. Barbara Mayor Carlito Zaplan, Vice Governor Ferdinand Calimlim Jr., 2nd District Rep. Leopoldo N. Bataoil and San Manuel Mayor Alain Jerico S. Perez.–JAGJr.
