SLING-SIU simultaneous coastal cleanup postponed
LINGAYEN–Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. announced on August 22 the postponement of the Save the Lingayen Gulf (SLING)-Shore It Up (SIU) simultaneous coastal cleanup originally scheduled on August 25 due to the prevailing weather condition in the province of Pangasinan.
The postponement was a joint-decision of the Metro Pacific Investment Foundation (MPIF) and the Provincial Government to give way to the on-going disaster relief operations and rehabilitation efforts of the provincial government to victims of Tropical Storm “Maring.”
Espino said that a provincial committee-in-charge shall coordinate with the municipal and city mayors once an alternative date has been determined.
Announcement will also be posted on the official website and facebook of the provincial government pangasinan.gov.ph.
The participating coastal cities and municipalities are: Bolinao, Anda, Bani, Alaminos City, Sual, Agno, Burgos, Infanta, Dasol, Labrador, Lingayen, Binmaley, San Fabian, and Dagupan City
About 10,000 volunteers from 14 towns and cities composed of 112 coastal barangays are expected to join the cleanup along the 285-linear kilometer stretch of the Lingayen Gulf and Dasol Bay.
Aside from coastal cleanup, the SLING-SIU project in cooperation with Alaminos City Mayor Arthur Celeste will also gather around 100 licensed volunteer divers to conduct rearrangement of giant clams at the Hundred Islands National Park as well as mangrove planting activity at Barangay Bued.
The SLING-SIU environmental campaign is a public-private partnership (PPP) between the provincial government of Pangasinan led by Espino and MPIF chaired by business tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan. (PIO)
