LINGAYEN–Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. led the awarding of checks amounting to P1,245,000 each to ten groups from different towns of Pangasinan through the provincial government’s livelihood assistance program implemented by the Provincial Population Office (PPO).

Espino urged all members of the cooperatives or associations to use the financial assistance prudently. This, according to the governor, will help augment the family income of the beneficiary households.

New livelihood schemes for the cooperatives include commodity trading, farm and agricultural inputs, cooperative re-lending scheme and goat production.

Ellsworth G. Gonzales, PPO Chief of Field Operations Division, said the recent awarding was the 27th batch of recipients since the program was launched in 2008 with accumulated loan amount of P34.9 million.

“It is the third batch for 2013 and there are still more to be awarded in the offing,” Gonzales said.

Pangasinan bagged a national award last month from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) as “Most Outstanding Local Government Unit in support to the Credit Surety Fund.”

The award came as a result of the province’s exemplary support to the BSP’s statistical undertakings, information needs and advocacy program that include the livelihood assistance project.

The BSP award is proof that the present administration has set its sight on enhancing the lives of every Pangasinan household through the various livelihood activities implemented via credit support fund.

As a result, Pangasinan has experienced a sharp decline by 9.5% in poverty incidence compared to national figure of a only 1.1 % between the period 2006 and 2012 as reported by the National Statistics Coordinating Board (NSCB).

The third batch of livelihood beneficiaries for this year are: Santodia Transport Service Cooperative (Anda), MalaboboKalipi Association (Mangatarem), Dorongan Punta Kalipi Association (Mangatarem), Sabangan Rural Improvement Club (Binmaley),Palacpalac Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Pozorrubio), Moonlight Agri Business Cooperative ( Urdaneta City), San Lorenzo Ruiz Multi-Purpose cooperative (Sto. Tomas), MasaganangAni Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Asingan), D’HighlightsAgri Business Cooperative (San Manuel), and Goat Raisers Association of Basista.
