Espino eulogizes Soriano as a model public servant
LINGAYEN—Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. could not hold back his tears as he spoke of the many memories he had with Dr. Jackson D. Soriano in his eulogy for the former chief of the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) who passed away last August 4 due to lung cancer.
Addressing provincial officials and employees who attended the eulogy rites for the late PPH chief at the hospital gymnasium in Bolingit, San Carlos City last August 8, Espino said Dr. Jackson “is a great loss as a doctor and as a chief of hospital” citing the many significant contributions he made in the transformation of government hospitals.
He said Dr. Soriano not only improved the physical infrastructure but the “human infrastructure” in the hospitals that led to vast improvement of hospital services enabling the government hospitals to regain the trust and confidence of the people in government’s services for medical attention.
“Napakalaking kawalan sa probinsiya si Dr. Jackson at napakalaking kawalan din sa akin bilang kaibigan,” Espino sadly noted as he recalled Dr. Jackson as a loving father and husband and a serious worker and caring person who always thought of the welfare of people.
“Nalulungkot ako at naghihinayang para kay Dr. Jackson dahil marami pa siyang pangarap para sa probinsiya at para sa ating mga kababayang mahirap,” Espino said.
Despite his condition, Dr. Jackson, as Espino recalled, still thought of his dream of making PPH as a medical center and spoke of his wishes for his colleagues in the hospital and for the governor to pursue his dreams and visions for the people and the hospital.
Vice-Gov. Ferdinand Calimlim, Jr. remembered Dr. Jackson as a respectful and a down-to-earth person aside from having good looks and being a good dancer who was always the life of the party.
Calimlim said the late doctor was such a pleasant person who can make everyone smile.
“Ikaw lang ang nakakapagpa-smile kay Governor when he is not in good mood,” Calimlim recalled.
Provincial Administrator Raffy Baraan described Dr. Jackson as a person who was always ready to lend a helping hand and a gentleman.
Dr. Policarpio Manuel, OIC chief-of-hospital described his “boss” with 10 “M’s”, meaning maalalahanin, matulungin, masipag, madasalin, maawain, matalino, mapagkumbaba, mahigpit sa trabaho, maprinsipyo at magandang lalaki.
His colleagues in the hospital had the same memories of their “boss” as a very understanding person with exemplary leadership and concern to his employees.
No doubt, Dr. Jackson Dabu Soriano’s demise made everyone feel sad and will always be remembered as a respectable and virtuous person who touched the lives of many people from his family, relatives, friends, colleagues, co-workers and even the patients at the PPH to whom he extended a helping hand.
The Soriano family expressed their deepest gratitude to the provincial government and to all who condoled and offered their prayers and sympathy.
Atty. Wilhelm Soriano, Dr. Jackson’s brother who spoke in behalf of the Soriano family, said “kami ay nalulungkot due to the loss, nanghihinayang because he still has a lot of dreams to fulfill, naiinggit dahil nauna na siya and he is now with the Lord at natutuwa dahil nasa langit na siya.” (PIO/Angeline D.
