Councilors’ League election set August 19
PEREZ VS. BATAOIL
LINGAYEN— Lingayen Councilor Ramon Bataoil will be squaring off with San Manuel Councilor Shiela Perez for the presidency of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) Pangasinan Chapter when it holds its election on Monday, August 19.
The PCL president sits at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and is considered a provincial board member.
Perez, whose brother Salvador Perez Jr. served as the previous PCL president from 2010-2013, comes from the long-ruling political clan of San Manuel. Her other brother, Alain Jerico S. Perez is the incumbent mayor and their father Salvador Sr., vice mayor.
Perez earlier said if she wins, she will focus on education programs and intends to continue with the projects initiated by her brother as board member.
On the other hand, Bataoil, brother of 2nd District Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil, is part of a team dubbed “Team Victory” vying for the PCL positions.
In a press conference last August 12, Team Victory disclosed their eight-point agenda anchored on the goal of “bringing about change and reform at the PCL”.
“We want to bring PCL closer to our districts by holding our meetings in different districts,” said Bataoil.
Bataoil said he plans to replicate his livelihood programs in the province.—with report from Johanne R. Macob
