34 seniors undergo free cataract operation
THIRTY-four indigent senior citizens of Dagupan City underwent successful cataract operation last August 8 as part of the city government’s new program, ‘Panangaro Kinen Laki tan Bai,’ for senior citizens.
“The city has to help elderly citizens restore their sight due to cataract problems to continue to become productive citizens and not be a burden to their families, said Mayor Belen T. Fernandez who accompanied the patients to Tarlac City for their operation performed at the Jecson Medical Center.
The whole-day activity, undertaken in coordination with the Senior Citizens Association of Dagupan and Office for Senior Citizens Affairs, was conducted by a team of eye doctors from the University of Sto. Thomas Department of Ophthalmology led by Dr. Antonio Say.
The beneficiaries were senior citizens who can’t afford the costly operation.
Fernandez thanked the UST eye doctors for supporting the city government’s program for senior citizens as she assured that a medical mission exclusively for the elderly will be conducted every month.
The free cataract operation has been a regular undertaking of Fernandez even before she became mayor. (CIO)
