LINGAYEN—The Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) is not taking the recorded 126 shooting incidents from January to June this year lightly.

It held a command conference last week to evaluate its operations particularly in the cities of Urdaneta and San Carlos and the towns of Bayambang, Calasiao, and Malasiqui where most shooting incidents occurred.

Urdaneta had 20 while San Carlos City, Malasiqui, Bayambang, and Calasiao had six each.

The report was made by Senior Supt. Marlou Chan, PPPO director during a

Chan clarified that regardless of the number of the incidents, the goal of solving these is the same noting that the PPPO regards “one shooting incident as one too many.”

Last year, a total of 249 shooting incidents were reported.

Chan also pointed out that the provincial police has a 60% crime solution efficiency rate for shooting incidents, higher than the 49% in previous years.

The command conference was called precisely to address the shooting incidents.

NUMBERS NOT GOOD

Itong shooting incidents statistics lately ay hindi na maganda,” Chan admitted.

“So besides our focused police operations, campaign against loose firearms, itong traditional na arrest of wanted persons, case buildup against guns-for-hire, we are pushing our men on the ground, “nag-target shooting” tayo sa mga personalities for possible application of search warrants to be implemented against them.”

To further address the issue, a four-day region-wide seminar was held at the PPPO starting July 2.

VACANT POSTS

Meanwhile, Chan also announced that there are currently no permanent police chiefs in at least 37 towns.

Current police chiefs who are scheduled to be reassigned are still carrying out their duties pending the appointment of replacements.

Chan himself is facing a case in court filed by Gov. Amado Espino Jr. calling for his ouster.–Johanne R. Macob
