It’s more fun here for 2,000 aliens
PANGASINAN is a “favorite destination of foreign retirees and students”, according the Bureau of Immigration office in the province.
Records show there are 1,300 permanent foreigners in the province holding immigrant visas and more than 900 foreign students.
Tourists extending their stay, on the other hand, average 200 per month.
Most of the foreign students are enrolled at the Lyceum Northwestern University, 300; Virgen Milagrosa University, 300; University of Luzon 200; and University of Pangasinan, 100.
Gilbert Lopez, BI chief for Pangasinan, said there is minimal trouble involving the foreigners and if there is any, there is good coordination efforts between them and apprehending agencies in the province like the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
“If the apprehending agencies catch aliens or foreigners violating criminal, civil or administrative laws of the country, they immediately coordinate with us,” Lopez said.
The BI, in turn, checks the papers and documents of these aliens and give the proper recommendation, added Lopez.
“Any foreigner found violating immigrations laws are immediately reported to the Bureau’s Intelligence Division,” he said..–(PIA1-Pangasinan/VHS)
