FOURTH District Rep. Gina de Venecia is seeking a mechanism for the establishment of a one-stop-shop at the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) and all other hospitals in the country for the benefit of indigents.

De Venecia made the call when she was the guest of honor and speaker during the 87th induction program of the Pangasinan Medical Society headed by Dr. Betha Fe Manaois-Castillo.

She said that in view of the expansion of R1MC to 1,500 beds, it would be fitting to set up a one-stop-shop to assist indigents who will seek hospitalization and do not have money to pay.

De Venecia said indigents often do not got to R1MC and other government hospitals for medical care because of perceived high  costs of mideical charges.

According to De Venecia, although R1MC and other hospitals do not charge indigents if they get certifications from the Department of Social Welfare and Development and their barangay chairman, the indigent patients are also not aware of their social service entitlements.

De Venecia deposits P500,000 quarterly or P2 million annually to R1MC from her Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) as a stand-by fund for the medical needs of indigents from the 4th District.

The envisioned one-stop-shop will function as a social welfare office inside hospitals which will address and facilitate the needs of indigent patients.
