LINGAYEN–Office of Civil Defense Regional Council (OCDRC) Regional Director Melchito M. Castro commended the leadership of Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr. for his extra effort in putting a proactive disaster and risk reduction program in Pangasinan in place over the past years.

In the kick-off ceremony of this year’s National Disaster Consciousness Month held July 15, Castro said that while the province is a high risk and disaster-prone area, ”Pangasinan is very much ready and assured of safety with the capability of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) under the stewardship of the governor.”

Espino, in an interview after the event, assured Pangasinenses that the PDRRMC and all other member agencies have been continuously enhancing their capability to prepare for eventualities of disasters that might occur anytime in the province.

While the OCDRC regional director hailed the provincial government for a job well done, he urged Pangasinenses to continue imbibing the spirit of cooperativism or bayanihan for a safer community.

Meanwhile, a coordinating conference followed immediately after the kick-off program at the conference hall of the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) here led by the governor to thresh out plans for a more comprehensive disaster risk management reduction program.

Other highlights of this year’s disaster consciousness month include mangrove planting at the San Roque Multi- Purpose Dam watershed area and Bugallon and rigid water and rescue skills training seminar.
