City Hall to auction new luxury vehicle
MAYOR Belen Fernandez wants to auction a brand new Hilux 4×4 pick up bought by the past city administration that used part of the calamity fund ostensibly for use of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC).
The vehicle, which is now parked at the at the city plaza, was purchased while then City Administrator Vladimir Mata was concurrent executive director of CDRRMC.
Fernandez said the CDRRMC does not need such an expensive vehicle and once sold, the auction money would be used to purchase a dump truck, that would be more useful for transporting victims in flooded areas and for the distribution of relief goods.
Observers said the purchase of the luxury vehicle using the calamity fund is a violation of the law.
The past administration under Mayor Benjamin Lim also used the calamity fund to buy 100 hand-held radios.
NEW CDRRMC OFFICE
At the same time, Fernandez has designated Ronald de Guzman as new CDRRMC executive director and relocated his office to the third floor of the three-storey building that was built the Lim administration at the premises of the City Engineering Office.
The building was intended as the relocation site for the Juan P. Guadiz Elementary School, which in turn was being readied for demolition to make way for the Maternal Child Care and Lying-in Clinic.
“Instead of letting the building turn into a white elephant, the CDRRMC might as well move there since its present office in the left wing of city hall is the first office to being flooded during heavy rains and occasioned by the rise of tidal water,” Fernandez said.
Fernandez plans to put the CDRRMC, the City Waste Management Division, the Anti-Littering Task Force and the Public Order and Safety Office under one unit to enable the four organizations to work together in maintaining city cleanliness, traffic management, and operations during calamities.
