Buhawi victims get shelter assistance
LINGAYEN–The provincial government recently distributed P740, 000 as financial assistance to the 148 families whose houses were totally damaged by the whirlwind, locally known as buhawi, and hailstorm that hit two Pangasinan towns last May and June.
The distribution was held in the towns of Bayambang and Urbiztondo last July 11 where the victims received P5,000 each under the Emergency Shelter Assistance Program to help them fix their damaged houses.
Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office Chief Emilio Samson said Gov. Amado Espino Jr. approved the release of the financial assistance from the province’s calamity fund for the 112 victim families in Urbiztondo who were affected by the hailstorm last June 4 and 36 families in Bayambang where houses were damaged due to a whirlwind on May 3.
Aside from the emergency shelter assistance to the victims in Bayambang, 500 families also availed of relief goods distributed by the provincial government through the PSWDO.
One of the victims, Antonio Castro of Barangay Malayo in Urbiztondo thanked the provincial government for the help saying, “Malaking tulong ito para maipaayos namin ang nasirang bahay namin.”
Executive Assistant III Modesto Operania who represented Espino in the fund distribution urged the people to observe disaster preparedness measures.
