PANGASINAN BOUNDARIES ROW

LINGAYEN–The 8th Sangguniang Panlalawigan vowed to settle the province’s boundary disputes with the provinces o Nueva Vizcaya and Benguet before the end of its term in 2013.

Last July 8, during the SP’s first regular session, two draft provincial board resolutions were filed referring the matter to the committees on Inter-Local Government and People’s and Non-Government Organizations Relations and Laws and Ordinances.

SAN NICOLAS BARANGAY

The first boundary dispute concerns the remote Barangay Malico, a highland area in San Nicolas town in Pangasinan, that has a temperate climate like Baguio’s, being claimed by the municipality of Sta. Fe, Nueva Vizcaya.

In its resolution, the SP authorized Board Members Alfonso Bince Jr. and Ranjit Ramos Shahani, both of the 6th District of Pangasinan, to undertake steps to expedite the holding of a joint meeting of officials of the two provinces to settle the boundary.

Barangay Malico, dubbed as “Little Baguio”, is being eyed by the administration of Governor Amado Espino Jr. to be developed as another tourist spot, especially with the construction of the Vill averde Road leading to the Sta. Fe town proper, all the way to Dalton Pass.

The proposed road is the old Villaverde Trail, once a guerilla supply route from Pangasinan to Nueva Vizcaya put up towards the end of World War III

SISON-TUBA ROW

The other dispute involves Barangay Alibeng in Sison, Pangasinan where the Northern Cement Plant is located, which is being claimed by Tuba in Benguet.

For this concern, the SP authorized Board Members Danilo Uy and Clemente Arboleda of the 5th District to set a joint meeting between officials of both Pangasinan and Benguet.
