UCAAP cagefest reels off July 31

THE UNIVERSITIES, Colleges Athletic Association of Pangasinan (UCAAP) will stage this year’s UCAAP-PCCL basketball tournament on July 31 with at the Dagupan People’s astrodome.

Aside from PRISAA’s multi-titled champions University of Luzon, Lyceum Northwestern University and University of Pangasinan-PHINMA, three other colleges, Pangasinan Merchant Marine Academy, AIE-College and Philippine Colleges of Science and Technology-Calasiao, have confirmed their participation during a meeting held on June 26.

Jorge Ceralde, assistant commissioner of National Amateur Basketball Referees Organization (NABRO) Pangasinan chapter told The PUNCH that the tournament’s format will be a double-round-robin system and the top two teams after the elimination round will fight for the championship in a best-of-three series.

The tourney’s champion will battle the titlists of La Union, Cordillera and Central Luzon to qualify for the national PCCL tourney.

The league’s next meeting will tackle the FIBA and ground rules, commissionership, eligibility of players, officiating group and other matters for the benefit of the league.–JAG Jr.
