NO FARE HIKE

THE Association of United Alliance Transport Organization Province-wide (AUTOPRO) in Pangasinan is not joining its mother organization’s call for a fare increase in the face of impending oil price hikes this month.

Instead, AUTOPRO is adopting the use of biofuel, which is cheaper than regular diesel oil.

AUTOPRO recently entered into a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Biofuel Pilipinas, a company that exports biofuel from Malaysia and supplies them to the small gasoline stations in the country, with the approval of the Department of Energy (DOE).

Benny Aquino, AUTOPRO president, said under the MOA the members of AUTOPRO agreed to patronize biofuel product from the partner gasoline station in the province and in return they will get a P2 discount per liter plus an almost P1 rebate per liter of purchased fuel.

Each member of AUTOPRO will be given a swipe card which will be presented upon purchase from the partner gasoline stations.

“We are encouraging our members to submit immediately their requirements so that we could already implement the project. We also encourage the other jeepney drivers even tricycle drivers who are non-members to use biofuel products,” Aquino said.

Besides the lower cost, biofuel products are also beneficial to the environment, he noted saying, “Because it is made from organic materials, the smoke it produces is not as toxic as (fossil) diesel.”

He further assured other drivers that biofuel is safe and not harmful to motor engines.

FARE HIKE

Aquino said his group is not joining the Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization (ACTO) headed by Efren De Luna in the petition for fare increase as this will take a very long process and they do not want to pass the burden of increased fuel cost to the commuters.

Nonetheless, he expressed hope that the giant oil companies operating in the country – Shell, Caltex, and Petron – will be forced to bring down prices through the purchasing power of almost 3,000 members of the transport group.–Dada Martin Austria
