Suspect in kapitan, family ambush arrested

BINALONAN—The police have arrested a suspect in the ambush of a barangay chairman here, his wife and daughter who were wounded when two assailants shot them while on their way home in between Barangays Sta. Maria Norte and Mangcasuy.

Chief Inspector Benjamin Ariola, police chief here, identified the suspect as Rudy Madali, 39, resident of Barangay Poblacion here.

The other assailant whose identity has been withheld is the subject of police manhunt.

Multiple frustrated homicide charges have been filed against Madali who was identified as one of the gunmen who shot Barangay Chairman Ronel Bautista, his wife Loreta, and their daughter Precious, 12, who all sustained injuries.

Loreta and Precious are already out of the hospital while Ronel is still recuperating.

The Bautistas were on their way home Tuesday afternoon from Baguio City on board a Pajero driven by the barangay chairman when two suspects fired at them.

Ronel was able to fire back twice using his licensed caliber .45 but missed his targets.

The police recovered 32 empty shells from M16 used by the suspects and two empty shells of caliber .45 at the crime scene.

The police are eyeing politics as possible motive for the incident.—Eva Visperas
