RTC orders status quo on PPC row

THE Pangasinan Press Club Inc., represented by its president Atty. Gonzalo T. Duque, scored a first-round victory in a civil action it filed against another group of media men when the Regional Trial Court (RTC) ordered a status quo in “so far as the matter of controversy is concerned.”

The order was issued by RTC Judge Mervin Jovito Samadan in connection with Civil Case No. 2013-0003 D which seeks an injunction with prayer for a Writ of Preliminary Injunction and/or Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) and Damages against the defendants with PPC represented by Duque as plaintiff.

Samadan set the hearing on the injunction proper at 1:30 p.m. of July 8.

The defendants are Orlando Navarro, Raul Tamayo, Manny Celzo, Leu Paragas, Liway Manantan Yparaguirri, Lorna Abalos, Virgilio Maganes, Ruel Camba, Edmund Abubo, R.J. Jimenez, Minerva Caburnay, Dino Ubando and Juan Dayang.

Except for Dayang, all were supposedly elected officers of a “Pangsinan Press Club” in an election held two weeks ago at the Sangguniang Panlungsod session hall of Dagupan.

In the hearing on the application for TRO last June 18, Duque and his counsel, as well as the defendants, except for Dayang, were present.

In that hearing, the plaintiff and defendants manifested jointly and upon assurance by the latter that they will not use the name of the “Pangasinan Press Club, Inc.” in all its dealings with the public until such time the prayer for injunction has been resolved by the court and that the plaintiff will not hold any election while the case is pending.
