THERE is enough rice stock in the province to meet the demand for usual consumption as well as for an emergency situation when calamity hits, according to the National Food Authority (NFA) Western Pangasinan office.

NFA Provincial Manager Rolando S. Rufo reported that the current rice inventory, including household and commercial stocks, is 755,281 bags, which is good for 59 days.

In anticipation of the coming lean season, a time when production is nil and demand of rice is high, the branch stepped up its milling operation to augment food security rice reserves.

NFA Western Pangasinan has 12 contracted millers plus its Buivanggo Ricemill in Mangatarem processing the procured palay in 2012 and the summer crop for 2013.

This makes availability and accessibility of good quality NFA rice in public markets and community-based outlets assured through the accredited Institutionalized Bigasan sa Palengke (IBSP) and accredited rice retailers.

The consumers’ price for government rice is P 27.00 per kilogram for regular milled rice and P28.00/kg for well-milled rice.

Meanwhile, Rufo also extended the appreciation of newly installed Administrator Orlan A. Calayag to all stakeholders, especially the farmers and the media, for their continuous support in all the advocacy and rice campaign programs of the NFA.
