Region 1 PNP chief orders cops’ increased visibility
BACK TO BASICS
LINGAYEN—The police director of Region 1has instructed cops to be go out in the field “where it matters most”.
Chief Superintendent Ricardo Marquez, in a visit to the province Wednesday, informed Pangasinan’s police chiefs about his program of going “back to basics”, which includes increasing police visibility in the communities, with focus on crime-prone areas.
Marquez stressed that “this (program) will be the one that will give life to maximum police visibility”, noting that one of the most important functions of the police is crime prevention.
“Everybody should participate. If you are not doing anything in the police station, you should be out there,” he added.
Marquez said he wants to see just the radio operator, an investigator, a desk officer and the “one pretending to be doing something” inside police stations.
He ordered that starting July, there should only be patrol police visibility in every police station.
Marquez further said if a policeman is writing a report and ideas do not come out naturally, “then he should go out from the station first and when he returns, he might already have something to write about”.
He told chiefs to draw up a plan wherein officers can visit even just once a month each of the barangays in the area.
This will be implemented on a 24-hour basis, with every policeman adopting a 12-hour shift on duty.
Marquez said, “Knowing that we are there, effectively we are preventing crimes from happening… As it is today, it is not like that. Sometimes they’re doing nothing inside the police station and that’s what I hate,” he said.–Eva Visperas
