LGUs urged to conduct bloodletting activities
LINGAYEN—Local government units (LGUs) in the province are urged “to conduct blood-letting activities to secure readily available blood supply for their constituents.”
The call was made by Provincial Health Office (PHO) chief Dr. Anna Maria Teresa de Guzman during the Mobile Blood Donation drive sponsored by the provincial government through the PHO at the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital (PPH) in Bolingit, San Carlos City on June 20.
“The activity was in preparation for the dengue season as well as in reducing maternal deaths,” she said, adding that provincial government-managed hospitals need ample blood supply for mothers during their delivery.
The bloodletting activity, held on the birthday of Governor Amado T. Espino Jr., was conducted in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) – Pangasinan Chapter.
Themed “Dugo Mo, Dugtong ng Buhay Ko,” the third wave of the blood donation gathered some 77 blood donors from LGUs and other agencies of San Fabian, Calasiao, Mangaldan, Bautista, City of San Carlos, PHO and PPH.
De Guzman reported that about 300 bags of blood were collected during the first and second waves of the bloodletting activity held at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center (PTDC) on June 20 and December 13 last year.
“Readily available naman po sa blood bank ng Red Cross ‘yung dugo na nakokolekta, most especially for the indigent patients, upon request ng mga hospitals ng probinsya,” she added.
Coinciding with the blood donation was the distribution of free snacks to PPH patients as the traditional annual treat of Espino to indigent patients confined at the hospital. (PIO/Mark Gerry Naval Oblanca)
