DTI distributes equipment to 10 coops
TEN cooperatives in the province will receive equipment from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) under the Shared Service Facility (SSF) program intended to improve the quality and productivity of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME).
The first seven beneficiaries who will receive the machinery assistance this week are the daing (dried fish) processors in Asingan, meat processors in Mangaldan, bangus processors in Dagupan City, dried fish processors in San Fabian, and bamboo processors for Bani, Mangatarem and Bayambang towns.
Each MSME was allotted between P800,000 to P3 million worth of equipment, depending on their projects and needs as evaluated by DTI.
Peter Mangabat, DTI provincial director, said the three other beneficiaries will receive their equipment later as the agency is still conducting the bidding.
Mangabat stressed that while the equipment is given for free, the cooperatives are required to put up a counterpart, which will be identified in the memorandum of agreement they will sign with with DTI as the lead agency.
As an initial counterpart, each group must provide the building where the equipment will be housed and pay for maintenance as well the bill for the electric consumption of the machine.
DTI will monitor the usage of the equipment while it continues to evaluate more applications from other cooperatives.—Dada Martin
