RECONCILIATION AFTER BITTER FIGHT

DAGUPAN’S new set of officials, irrespective of political affiliation, led by the new Mayor Belen Fernandez took their oath at the CSI Stadia Friday before Civil Service Commission (CSC) chairman Francisco Duque III.

Political rivalry between two parties was intense during the campaign for the May 13 election and it would not have been surprising if winners from the two camps did not take their oath in one setting.

Fernandez’ allies in the Liberal Party (LP) were first to arrive for the ceremony, including Councilors Maybelyn Fernandez, Karlos Reyna, Alfie Fernandez, Jeslito Seen, Marvin Fabia and Jose Netu Tamayo.

Vice Mayor Brian Lim, son of former Mayor Benjamin Lim, surprisingly showed up to join other officials in the induction ceremony witnessed by some 5,000 people although he already took his oath by his lonesome before Senator JV Ejercito Estrada in a ceremony held a day before at the Divine Word Academy gymnasium.

The partymates of Lim, who ran under the Nacionalista Party (NP) banner, namely Councilor Jess Canto, Alvin Coquia, Redford Erfe-Mejia and Guillermo Vallejos took their oath along with the LP team.

The oath-taking was attended by political luminaries, including former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., Fourth District Rep. Gina de Venecia and members of her family on the Perez’ side, former Akbayan Partylist Rep. Riza Hontiversos, former Mayor Alipio Fernandez, former Vice Gov. Gonzalo Duque, former Dagupan Vice Mayor Teodoro Manaois and former Councilor Liberato Reyna Jr.
