LINGAYEN—The beleaguered police provincial director of Pangasinan was finally relieved from his post effective Friday, June 21 following an order from Camp Crame, the Philippine National Police headquarters.

Senior Supt. Marlou Chan, who was earlier declared persona non grata by the provincial board and is facing a court case filed by Gov. Amado Espino Jr., was ordered to turn over command to Senior Supt. Manuel Velasco in a simple rite Saturday at the provincial police headquarters here.

Chan, who has been re-assigned at the regional police office in La Union, said he is leaving his home province of Pangasinan with both a heavy heart and happiness because even in his short stint here, he was able to show his competence when he received a commendation form Chief Superintendent Ricardo Marquez, the police regional director.

Earlier, Marquez vowed to appear at the next hearing of the provincial board to attest to the legality of the order designating Chan as provincial director.

“This is what I have been telling our fellow Pangasinenses. I will follow lawful orders,” Chan said.

He admitted he was saddened by provincial board’s resolution declaring him persona non grata for refusing to step down despite the clamor for his ouster, explaining that all he was waiting for was an order from the PNP hierarchy relieving him from his post.—Eva Visperas
