Calimlim is acting governor
GUV ESPINO TAKES A BREAK
LINGAYEN—Gov. Amado Espino Jr. is taking a month-long leave of absence from his post, just before he takes on the tasks for his third and final term that begins on July 1.
“It is a well-deserved rest and a time to ‘recharge’ as we know that come July, the governor will serve a new term, his legacy term,” said Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim Jr. who will be serving as acting governor from May 27 to June 25.
“As per our last conversation, aside from taking a break from the emotionally-draining campaign, the governor will go to United States to find a specialist to look into his mother’s health condition,” he added.
Espino, who won a third term in the May 13 election by a wide margin, was slapped during the campaign period with corruption charges before the Office of the Ombudsman for allegedly receiving bribe money from jueteng operations as well as a murder charge for allegedly being one of the masterminds in the December killing of a town mayor.
Calimlim said Espino instructed him to make sure that all provincial programs and services are continued and carried out.
“It will be business as usual… As always, asikasuhin ang ating mga kababayan. Lahat ng mga ongoing programs ay tuloy-tuloy pa rin, walang humpay at patuloy na pag-aasikaso sa lahat ng basic services natin,” the acting governor assured.
Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario, being one of the senior board members, will temporarily take Calimlim’s post as vice governor and chair of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.– Johanne R. Macob
