Archbishop Soc calls for humility and honesty among public servants
LINGAYEN—Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas has underscored the importance of humility, honesty and humor as the qualities that public servants must possess to open more doors and soften the hearts of the people.
In his homily during the inauguration of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. as the governor-elect on his third term and the new set of officials for the 8th Sangguniang Panlalawigan last June 28 at the Sison Auditorium here, Villegas called on all the officials to show humility by using “please” and “thank you” as “these two words will open more doors and soften more hearts for you”.
Villegas said respect and courtesy are the two most important values to show humility and these are inherent in public office.
The archbishop also stressed the importance of honesty as another trait a government leader must possess even as he said that “people who live in truth are people who are truly free”.
He likewise urged the public servants to exercise honesty and called on the leaders to bring the people joy and hope as our people have been suffering enough.
