66th Agew na Dagupan kicks off June 12
THE 66th Agew na Dagupan celebration will kick off on June 12, coinciding with the nationwide celebration of Philippine Independence Day.
Superintendent Gloria Torres, head of the Department of Education Dagupan City Division which is leading the festivities, said last week a tentative list of activities has been prepared and Dangerous Drugs Board Chairman Antonio Villar Jr., a Pangasinense, has been invited to be the guest speaker on opening day.
The activities lined up for this year’s commemoration of the founding day of the city include a wreath-laying ceremony and program, and tree planting on the first day.
The project “Plastics to Pavers” will be launched on June 13.
A competition for elementary and secondary students called the “Sukatay Talisiw” will be held on June 14. With the theme, “Siyudad na Dagupan ed 2020”, it will involve three different contest categories, quiz bee, essay writing and poster making.
The customary “Manlingkor ya Calangweran” will be held on June 17-19 wherein some high school students will be given training on leadership and governance through hands-on exposure at the city hall.
June 19 will be the city’s special celebration of the 152nd birthday of national hero Jose Rizal.
As a finale on June 20, there will be a unity parade in the morning and an exhibit of the city’s delicacies. In the evening, a program with the theme “Say malet ya olopan, biskeg na siyudad na Dagupan” will be held at the Dagupan Astrodome with television journalist Julius Babao as keynote speaker.–Johanne R.
