Shahani: I will not be ousted from LP

NO way.

This was the confident assertion of Board Member Ranjit Shahani on his reported possible expulsion from the Liberal Party (LP) for supporting re-electionist Governor Amado Espino Jr. of the opposing Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).

“Has anyone been expelled of in the history of any political party?” Shahani said during s press conference on April 26.

He presented to the media a copy of the proposed resolution on his expulsion, which he said was not even signed by the LP provincial chairman, former Governor Victor Agbayani.

Shahani, who is running for re-election after failing to clinch the LP slot for vice governor, also cited that his grandfather, Narciso Ramos, was one of the founding members of LP and his mother, former Senator Leticia Ramos- Shahani, as well as himself are loyal members of the party.

He noted that his mother already wrote to President Benigno Aquino III in October 2012 explaining the rivalry between Ranjit and his cousin Alaminos Mayor Hernani Braganza, the LP’s gubernatorial candidate in Pangasinan.

In the same letter, the elder Shahani assured the President of his son’s support to the LP senatorial slot even if he is not backing the team of Braganza and his runningmate Arturo Lomibao.

“I’m loyal to the party… we just disagree in the gubernatorial candidate,” the younger Shahani said.

“This is like a sibling rivalry as that of Jinggoy and JV (sons of former President Joseph Estrada) or Tingting and Bam (relatives of the President), but I remain loyal to the LP,” he added.

At the same time, Shahani challenged LP member Oscar Lambino to “physically and politically resign from Pangasinan politics” after announcing his possible expulsion from party.–Johanne R. Macob.
