Rosario back in Binmaley; Velasco loses anew in Sta. Barbara

MAYORALTY RACES

LINGAYEN–Former Mayor Simplicio Rosario came back to lead the town of Binmaley anew after roundly beating his former conqueror, outgoing Mayor Lorenzo Cerezo in Binmaley.

On the other hand, in Sta. Barbara, retired General Reynaldo Velasco did not succeed in his return bid when he was trounced anew by re-electionist Mayor Carlito Zaplan.

Meanwhile, an upset was scored in San Fabian when Liga ng mga Barangay President Constante Agbayani prevailed over re-electionist Mayor Irene Libunao, wife of re-elected 4th District Board Member Mojamito Libunao.

In Mangaldan, Bona de Vera succeeded in her second bid for the mayorship after beating Berex Abalos who briefly succeeded as town mayor when Mayor Herminio Romero died in December last year due to a stroke.

Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Kim Amador prevailed in a three-way battle for mayorship against Angie Reyes, wife of incumbent mayor Napoleon Sales, and 4th District Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario.

FATHER-AND-SON

Son-and-father tandems in Calasiao and San Manuel were upheld by the voters again, but the Sorianos in San Carlos City lost.

Calasiao Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay and his father, Vice Mayor Roy Macanlalay, elected for another three years; and Alain Perez and his father Salvador Perez of San Manuel were given new mandates.

Brothers Julier Resuello, mayor of San Carlos City, and Joseres, the vice mayor, also won, beating the father-and-son tandem of Douglas and Lester Soriano.

Another brothers team surfaced in Bolinao with the election of Noli Celeste as mayor and outgoing Mayor Alfonso Celeste as vice mayor.

An upset was also registered in Bani town by a 33-year-old wife and Political Science graduate of the University of the Philippines-Baguio in the person of Gwen Palafox-Yamamoto who beat two-termer Mayor Marcelo Navarro Jr., a retired police general, whose family has dominated town politics for two decades.

Susan Casareno also ended the reign of the Revita family in Rosales when she won the mayorship.

In Tayug, Tyrone Agabas, the husband of unopposed 6th District Rep. Marlyn Primicias Agabas, won the mayorship by almost 6,000 votes against his closest pursuer despite running as an independent bet

RE-ELECTED

In Urbiztondo, Mayor Ernesto Balolong was re-elected for a second term of office.

Mayor Teodoro Ramos of Sta. Maria, Philip Peralta of Balungao, Haidee Chua of Asingan, Cocoy Rafael of Natividad and Eldred Tumbocon of Umingan were also re-elected.

In Lingayen, sympathy votes poured on Iday Castañeda, wife of Mayor Ernesto Castañeda, who died in office in March last year.

Castañeda beat Edith Hallare of the Liberal Party and Board Member Von Mark Mendoza of the Nationalist People’s Coalition.

It will be the second time that Castañeda will serve as mayor of Lingayen.

BUGALLON

In Bugallon, Jumel Espino, the youngest son of re-elected Governor Amado Espino Jr., easily won the mayorship while the elected Vice Mayor is outgoing Mayor Ricardo Orduña, who filed a plunder case before the Ombudsman against the elder Espino.

In San Quintin, Mayor Romulo Antolin lost his post to his challenger Clark Tiu.

In Alaminos City, former Rep. Arthur Celeste was proclaimed winner with Lean Braganza, son of outgoing mayor Hernani Braganza, in far second.
