Pangasinan hosts Karate-do nat’l tourney

LINGAYEN—The OSKA Shikodan Philippines All Shorin-Ryu National Karate-do Tournament was held last May 24-25 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) here with more than 100 athletes participating in the competitions.

The Karate-do players represented six teams, namely: Philippine Cats Claw Martial Arts Association-Kuwait; Mugenkai Martial Arts Association- Lingayen-Dagupan, Pangasinan; Falcon Team-Malasiqui, Pangasinan; Okinawa Shorin-Ryu Clan- Bicol; Shidokan Escote Dojo- Antipolo City; and De La Salle University Shidokan-Cavite.

The competition had three categories: kobudo, kata, and kumite.

Kobudo  covers all ancient martial art traditions (armed or unarmed); kata refers to detailed choreographed patterns of movements practiced either solo or in pairs and the last one; and kumite is the sparring game.

Atty. Jeremy Escote, Oska Shikodan Philippines President, formally opened the event also dubbed as 4th Okinawa Shorin-ryu Karate-Do Association (OSKA) Shikodan Philippines National Tournament 1st Katsuya Miyahira Cup, named after Katsuya Miyahira, founder of OSKA Shidokan in Japan.

He rallied the young players to “study hard, train hard, and fight easy.”

At the same time, Escote thanked the provincial government for the support.
