THE support of Dagupeños for 4th District Rep. Gina de Venecia and Vice Mayor Belen Fernandez became even more evident when people excitedly mobbed them when they joined the Kalutan ed Dalan of the Bangus Festival in the afternoon of April 30.

They were joined by vice mayoralty candidate Michael Fernandez and all the candidates for councilors namely, Alfie Fernandez, Karlos Reyna, Jeslito Seen, Marilyn Manaois Reyna, Solo de Venecia, Marvin Fabia, Saysi Samson and Alfredo Quinto. Maybelyn Fernandez was not around.

Former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. who was with them was extremely elated as it gave him the chance to see his peers and citymates in a festive mood.

It was the former Speaker, still very popular among fellow Dagupenos, who introduced Belen Fernandez to many of his old friends and comrades who attended the Bangus Festival.

Manay Gina and Ate Belen were initially reluctant to join the occasion after noting that the Bangus Festival, a public event, was converted as a venue for political campaigning exclusively by Lim and his team, and they remembered how one of their partymates, Solo de Venecia, was accosted by Mayor Benjamin Lim while watching the Gilon-gilon street dancing the previous day.

However, Maceda, Manay Gina’s brother-in-law, who was invited for the ceremonial lighting of grills, reminded them that they have as much right to be at the event as public officials and Dagupenos

Meanwhile, Michael Fernandez noted that the Bangus Festival is not the exclusive domain and private party of the Lim family because this is a public event bankrolled by the money of the people.

For this, they have no right to bar anyone from attending the festival, noting what Lim did to Solo de Venecia.

Many were dismayed when Councilors Brian Lim and Red Erfe-Mejia never acknowledged the presence of Manay Gina and Ate Belen during the events.
