2013 Limgas na Pangasinan is a champion for the environment
LINGAYEN–This year’s Limgas na Pangasinan clinched the title with her winning response in the question-and-answer portion where she related how beauty contests can serve the campaign for environmental protection.
“This pageant together with our credibility and advocacy can influence and inspire other people for a better and cleaner environment,” said 2013 Limgas na Pangasinan Pamela Kae Miranda from Calasiao during the pageant night on May 1.
Kae, communication student at the University of the Philippines (UP) Baguio, said her environmental advocacy was further shaped by her membership in one of the university’s organizations.
“Every January, our organization conducts coastal cleanup in different areas in the province with the help of the community,” she said.
“Being a UP student really really helped me a lot… being an ‘Iskolar ng Bayan’, hindi lang natatapos sa natutunan mo sa classroom; more importantly ginagawa kang aware sa mga nangyayari sa paligid mo, maging socially aware,” she added.
Kae’s mother, Jackie Miranda, told The PUNCH that she is surprised by her daughter’s victory and at the same time very proud of her.
Mrs. Miranda said she was initially reluctant about the beauty pageant but since her daughter was determined to join, she eventually fully supported her bid.
Kae’s court is composed of first runner-up Maria Marjorie Antigua of San Carlos City and second runner-up Charlotte Visperas from Mangaldan.
Meanwhile, Governor Amado Espino Jr. rallied the crowd in his speech during the coronation night to take part in caring for the environment.
Espino also announced that later this year, various eco-friendly water sports will be available at the Agno River, particularly in the Banaga, Bugallon- Domalandan and Bantayan, Lingayen area.–Johanne R. Macob
