Youth group mulls filing charges vs. campaign violators

YOUTH STAND Dagupan, a broad alliance of young people in the city, has been actively gathering evidence against candidates violating campaign rules and is planning to file cases against them.

At the same time, the youth group slammed the Commission on Elections for its inability to control the rampant posting of over-sized and illegally placed posters all over the city.

“Despite the COMELEC resolution on campaign guidelines, candidates look fearless and go on with illegal campaigning schemes. We are dismayed that until today, actions have not yet been taken by the commission,” said Alex Torio, spokesperson of Youth Stand.

Torio said the group has its own monitoring team that focuses on gathering data for evidence.

“If these candidates cannot follow the simple rule of where to properly place their posters, what more with more important rules? It is definitely not a good example for the youth,” he added.

“But then, we are urging the commission to intensify its monitoring all over the city. We are one with them in fighting for what is right,” Torio concluded.
