Shuffling of Comelec officers completed

THE shuffling of election officers in Pangasinan, undertaken to promote impartiality in the May 13 elections, has been completed with 90 percent temporarily assigned to another location.

Lawyer Marino Salas, provincial election supervisor, however, clarified that the election officers who were already re-assigned six months earlier remain in their posts.

The shuffling policy is in compliance with a Commission on Elections (Comelec) resolution that covers regional and provincial supervisors as well as municipal and city election officers.

“This is a good move to avoid familiarity with politicians or candidates, especially the incumbent officials seeking re-election,” said Salas adding,

First to be re-assigned were officers who have been in their post for at least four years and those with relatives seeking elective positions in their area.

Salas said an election officer can still be designated to another place even one day before election day proven bias for a particular candidate is proven.

After the elections, these officers will return to their previous assignments.—Eva Visperas
