Pangasinan language writers cited
KURIT PALUNGGARING
LINGAYEN— Twelve local writers proficient in the Pangasinan language were cited for their outstanding achievement in promoting the local language and culture through their literary compositions that were entered in the province’s 2nd Literary Awards competition dubbed as Kurit Panlunggaring.
The competition winners in the two divisions (with two categories each) are:
(Poetry/Adults): Jahwela Querimit Ocay (Mangaldan), 1st ; Alma Nepascua (Alaminos City), 2nd; Mark Anthony Austria(Alaminos City) 3rd;
(Short Story Writing/Adults): Harvie Aquino (Lingayen) 1st; Lanie Tomas (Dagupan City), 2nd; Alex Romeo Fernandez (Dagupan City), 3rd;
(Poetry/Youth): Kim John Santillan (Dagupan City), 1st; Kristine Dawn Dudang (Lingayen), 2nd; Ma. Angela Rosal (Dagupan City) 3rd;
(Essay Writing/Youth): Angela Kate Estrada (Calasiao) 1st, Denson Padlan (Aguilar), 2nd; Jayson Bustamante (Binmaley), 3rd.
The winners were awarded cash and trophies during the Commemorative Program of Agew na Pangasinan last April 5, 2013.
The 12 entries were chosen from among all the pieces of work submitted since March 14, 2013 at the Provincial Tourism Office. Except for essay contest that had the theme “Ikino Ko’y Baley a Sinulmingan,” the rest of the submissions had diverse subjects.
According to Provincial Tourism Chief Malu Elduayan, kurit is the local term for writing while panlunggaring is a term coined by Pangasinan poet and Pangasinan Asna Awardee Sonny Villafania from combining local words Pangasinan and Matalunggaring. – (Johanne R. Macob)
