OWWA scholarships for OFW dependents
DEPENDENTS of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Pangasinan and other parts of Region 1 can avail of scholarships for tertiary education being offered by the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
Amapola Villar, labor communication officer, said applications for the OFWs’ Dependent Scholarship Program are now being accepted at the OWWA satellite offices in Pangasinan and at the regional office in San Fernando City, La Union.
Qualified applicants for the scholarship program include children below 21 years old of married OFWs and siblings of single OFWs, a high school graduate and an incoming college freshman for the school year 2013-2014.
“Once the applicant has been evaluated and has completed the documentary requirements, the applicant can enroll in any four to five-year baccalaureate course or associate degree in a state college or university within the Ilocos Region,” said Villar.
No qualifying exam is needed to avail of the program as long as the OFW is an active OWWA member, has a monthly salary of not more than US $400 as per valid work contract, and the applicant passes the entrance exam of the receiving school.
Deadline for submission of application is June 7, 2013.
Applications can be received in following satellite DOLE offices: Barangay Bonuan Gueset, Dagupan City every Wednesdays (9a.m. to 3p.m.); Barangay Carmay, Rosales, every Fridays (9a.m. to 3p.m.); 3/F CB Mall, Urdaneta City, every Fridays (9a.m. to 3p.m.); 2/F Ranoy Arcade, Ungson Street, Poblacion, Alaminos City, every Fridays (9a.m. to 3p.m.); and Pangasinan OFW Center at PESO Office, Kalantiao Building, Capitol Grounds, Lingayen, every Tuesdays or as may be requested by PESO-Pangasinan.
