Lokin to push for Lingayen’s cityhood

SECOND District congressional aspirant Kim Lokin has vowed to push for the cityhood of Lingayen, the capital town of Pangasinan, if elected.

Lokin said it’s about time to convert Lingayen into a city to bring about real development for this town, which is the heart and soul of Pangasinan as the seat of the provincial government.

She said once Lingayen becomes a city, there will be more funds to spend for developmental projects because the local government unit will get a bigger share of the budget.

“Lingayen will then become an area of prosperity,” she said.

Meanwhile, Lokin is elated over the outpouring of support from voters in her fight for clean government which starts with a big “no” to vote-buying in the May 13 elections.

Lokin said in her barangay sorties, people welcomed her advocacy, saying that it’s about time someone takes the lead in letting the voters use their free will to choose the leaders they want without any influence from gift-giving or extending grocery items.

She added that candidates used to employ vote-buying discreetly at night but they have now become so emboldened that such election offense is committed even in broad daylight.

Lokin thanked the media that serves as agents of change in changing the mindset of voters in rejecting any form of vote-buying.

She said she campaigns based on her platform of good governance, adding that the people deserve a new breed of leaders whose primordial concern is to serve the best interest of the public.

She said if she wins, she would be more visible in her district to respond to the people’s needs and to foster an all-weather kind of relationship with the people, not the type that reaches to them only when election time comes.

She added that being a party mate of President Aquino, she could give more services to the people by bringing in her district more projects that respond to their real needs.
