Lim recollects Bangus Festival story
AS the 2013 Bangus Festival draws to a close on April 30 with the Kalutan ed Dalan highlighting event, Mayor Benjamin S. Lim recounted how the Bangus Festival started and how it eventually developed as a world-renowned tourism event.
“From the birth of the festival in a visioning exercise with the different department heads, officials and professionals, to acquiring the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest grill, I am glad that this fete is attracting more visitors from other municipalities and countries,” said Lim in his keynote speech during the opening program on Monday at the city plaza.
Lim initiated and launched the festival in 2001, earning him the moniker “Father of the Bangus Festival.”
This year’s celebration features new events such as the Dragon Boat competition on April 27-29 at the Pantal River which showcases the rowing talent of local fisherfolks as well as the river.
The 101 Ways to Cook Bangus has also been expanded to 101 Ways to Cook Seafoods to promote the city as the Seafood Market of the North.
Traditional and anticipated events such as the Bangus Rodeo remained a feature along with more recent introductions such as the 2nd Dagupan’s Best Special Lechon (D’ BSL) wherein the city’s 31 barangays featured their own recipes for the tastiest lechon.
“Aside from promoting another means of livelihood for the Dagupeños, we also envision Dagupan to be known for its quality lechon products. This competition is an avenue to fulfill our vision for the city,” Lim said.
“The pigs used in this event were the product of our successful Profitable Indigenous Grow-out System (PIGS) wherein the city with the help of FeedPro determines beneficiaries in every barangay who are capable to raise pigs in their backyard,” said City Agriculture Officer Emma Molina. (CIO)
