FOR RAMPANT VIOLATIONS

WATCH out local and national candidates!

The city and municipal election officers have received their marching orders to go after candidates who continue to flout the rules on propaganda particularly postering outside designated common poster areas.

Provincial Elections Supervisor Marino Salas said that earlier appeals and warnings to the candidates went unheeded wanton and it leaves the Commission of Elections no choice but to make candidates accountable for their supporters’ violations.

The Provincial Elections Office said it had sent warning notices to all candidates that if their respective campaign posters posted in unauthorized places, i.e., electric posts, trees, public school buildings building walls without express permission of owners, including painting of names on walls and streets, etc., are not removed by this week, they risk being charged in court that could result in possible disqualification.

Salas said the Comelec and its deputies are set to implement “Operation Baklas” to uphold the law.

After documenting the illegally posted posters, streamers and the vandalism of walls, the evidence will be sent to Comelec’s legal department in Manila for the filing of appropriate cases against erring candidates.

Pasensiyahan na lang po tayo. We already did our part of informing you of what not to do,” warned Salas.

The deputies will either remove the posters at the expense of the candidates or take pictures as evidence.

He also warned against using propaganda materials that do not conform with set standard sizes.

Salas urged candidates to carefully study and observe the established rules for the campaign period.
