Braganza-Lomibao focuses on grassroots campaigning
THE Liberal Party’s gubernatorial candidate Hernani Braganza and his running mate Arturo Lomibao formally kicked off their campaign dubbed “Lakbay Pangasinan, Lakbay Pagbabago” last April 1 with visits to barangays in Urbiztondo, Mangatarem and Bugallon.
Braganza said the Liberal Party in Pangasinan is focusing on “grassroots campaigning” to reach as many voters as possible.
“We will attend the rallies organized by our local candidates in the town plazas, but we will devote most of our time interacting with our fellow Pangasinenses in the barrios,” Braganza said.
Braganza vowed that the barangay consultations would be interactive, to allow voters to engage their candidates in discussions on their respective e platforms.
Conceding that grassroots campaigning could prove to be physically challenging, Braganza said his team is “physically and mentally prepared” to undertake a rigorous campaign schedule.
SPENDING LIMIT
The barangay sorties and town hall meetings would also allow the Liberal Party candidates to spend for the campaign within the limit prescribed by law and the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Braganza pointed out.
Under the law, a local candidate is allowed to spend only P3 for every voter or P4.8 million for the duration of the campaign in Pangasinan, which has 1.6 million voters.
“Traditionally, candidates are obliged to provide food and spend for transportation during big rallies. That, in itself, is a violation of election laws,” he pointed out.
