Archbishop Soc won’t influence voters
NO TEAM PATAY OR BUHAY
SAN FABIAN–“I will never ask my flock whom to vote”
Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas said Tuesday he will never ask, much less demand, that his flock vote for certain candidates.
Villegas, speaking during a forum at the San Fabian Parish Center that launched the Movement of Concerned Citizens for Good Governance (MCCGG), added that neither will the endorse candidates and will not even reveal his personal choices.
“Kung tatanungin ninyo ako kung sino ang dapat ninyong iboto, ikinakalungkot ko pong sabihin sa inyo bilang inyong arsobispo na hindi ko kayo sasagutin ,” he said.
“It is because you and I were given by God two gifts of gab — intelligence and freedom,” the prelate added.
Archbishop Soc said telling his flock whom to vote is tantamount to insulting their intelligence and freedom of choice given by God.
At the same time, the prelate of the Lingayen-Dagupan archdiocese also confirmed that the stringing of streamers of “Team Patay” or “Team Buhay” will not happen in the archdiocese.
The launching of the MCCGG was attended by all local candidates in San Fabian, including for mayors and councilors.
The MCCGG is a movement for a clean election, particularly against vote-buying.
The forum was organized by Dr. Teresita de Venecia, a civic leader, the town parish council led by Msgr. Oliver Mendoza, and Bienvenido Azurin, municipal election officer of San Fabian.
