70 shooting incidents, 44 killed since January
NOT ALARMING, SAYS PNP
LINGAYEN—The police recorded 70 shooting incidents in Pangasinan from January to April 9 with 44 of the victims killed.
However, Sr. Inspector Ryan Manongdo, provincial public information officer at the Pangasinan Police Office, said the number is not alarming considering that Pangasinan has 2.6 million population.
“We have no formula or standard to say it’s alarming. It depends on the interpretation of the one looking at the situation,” Manongdo told newsmen.
Manongdo said 31 of these incidents were perpetrated by men riding-in-tandem on motorcycles, who are generally considered to be hired killers, while the rest were considered as “plain shooting” as in cases of drunken shootings.
Most of the guns used were caliber .45 pistols.
One of the most recent cases occurred last Monday night in Barangay Laoac, Pozorrubio town where Floreta Pablo, 60, was shot dead on the head by an unidentified person in front of her house with the use of an unidentified caliber of firearm.
Two persons were also shot dead died Monday evening, namely, Romeo Sorongon Jr., 21, single and Aljon Padilion, 22, married, both residents of Barangay Renado, Bayambang town while on board a motorcycle on their way home.
The weapon used by the suspects is believed to be a shotgun based on four spent cartridge cases recovered at the crime scene.—Eva Visperas
